From sunrise to sunset, Irmina and Brian went all in on their Colorado hot air balloon elopement in Boulder to round out their time living in Colorado. They started the day before dawn for a hot air balloon ride above Boulder, Colorado. Their captain, Ed, was not only a fantastic surveyor of the mountains but a genuine human who you could tell is passionate about his work. In the tiny 4-seater basket, quarters were close. But he was so relaxed and set the tone for the 90-minute ride. They floated up to almost 3000 ft on the cool September morning, and the world seemed so quiet. Irmina and Brian blew bubbles into the air, and watched the morning wake up in wedding attire.
The reason they chose a hot air balloon was a bit of a joke! Irmina said that she teased Brian that "the only way she would marry him would be if he proposed in a hot air balloon". She meant that as sort of a, there's no way he will do it kind of thing. Brian decided to book a hot air balloon to prove to Irmina that he really meant it and that he was seriously wanting to marry her! It’s also an extraordinary life experience that goes hand in hand with something special like a wedding day.
Exchanging Vows at a Private Lake
The second part of the afternoon was filled with altitude again - but this time following a fairly tedious 4x4 road. Up at 12,000 ft, they found a private lake where Irmina and Brian exchanged their vows. As the sun was setting, they had the mountains to themselves and frolicked around before enjoying a small cake and cider picnic.
Best advice for taking a hot air balloon
Advice for any couples wanting to incorporate a hot air balloon: be prepared for close quarters! The basket for a 4-person balloon is COZY. Standing room only kind of thing. But the experience itself was seamless. Sunrise temperatures tend to be a bit cool, but once you're in the air in the balloon it warms up quickly! Especially when you're under an open flame. Secondly, just know that the most nerve-wracking part is the initial moments - but flying in a hot air balloon is literally like floating! If you have a small fear of heights, this experience is not scary. Once you're up in the air it's relaxing!
