Mancos, Colorado — A retro motel wedding in the Colorado desert is what vintage elopement dreams are made of. This is a wedding celebration that’s equal parts disco fever and wild western magic, set against the kitschy backdrop of the Mesa Verde Motel in Mancos, Colorado.

This styled elopement is proof that you can have it all: vibrant color, quirky details, heartfelt moments, and a whole lot of personality. Imagine sparkling disco balls, flower-draped mini-horses (yes, really), and a ceremony surrounded by potted cacti under desert light.

The vibe? Bold, playful, and a little rebellious. This is perfect for couples who want to ditch tradition and do something unforgettable.

Ceremony Full of Flair

Event designer Toni Sicola of Tangled Sage Event Artistry brought this vision to life with an altar setup featuring bright florals, oversized cacti, and shimmering disco balls that bounced light across the walls. The couple said their vows standing on handwoven rugs from Hesperado Rugs while being surrounded by nothing but desert air.

Mini Horses + Max Personality

Mini-horses joined the party while wearing floral garlands and carrying chilled beverages in their side satchels. They stole the show and added a whimsical Southwest twist to cocktail hour.

Dinner Under the Desert Sky

Dinner was a colorful spread of earthy textures and citrus accents. Gold snakes twisted through taper candles, and potted cacti mingled with fresh-cut fruit and vibrant blooms. The sweetheart table glowed with hanging florals and even more disco balls.

Farm to Fingers served up a farm-to-desert feast. It featured line-caught salmon, blackened white fish, and a charcuterie board packed with berries, soft cheeses, and prosciutto-wrapped melon. Their custom wedding cake and M Bar’s signature cocktails rounded out the experience.

Fashion That Pops

The bride wowed in an off-the-shoulder, short gown from Katerina’s Darling Bridal. She paired it with fire engine red platform heels and a flowing red veil that danced in the desert wind. Her look was finished with a floral headband and custom “flower tattoos”. Floral tattoos are an artsy, unconventional way to incorporate flowers into your wedding or elopement.

The groom rocked a rust-toned suit with a classic bolo tie and a lapel full of blooms, blending Southwest style with just the right touch of flair.

As the golden hour hit, the couple posed under the glowing neon motel sign and snuck away into Room 13. Room 13 is the hidden “honeymoon suite” of Mesa Verde Motel. After arriving in the suite they stopped for a few moody, intimate portraits.

What Is an Adventure Wedding?

Traditional or Adventure?

Traditional weddings are stressful, templated, and predictable. The venue and timeline create a box that vendors have to fit into. With adventure elopements, the walls of that box fall down, and you let serendipity take the wheel. It’s about creating an experience that’s entirely your own, without outside expectations dictating how the day unfolds.

Why are Adventure Weddings Personal?

Adventure weddings and elopements are opportunities to be unique. This particular adventure gave the couple a chance to explore a place they love (Southwestern Colorado) at a unique micro-motel, surrounded by the energy of small-town life. These experiences create layers of memories instead of the one-dimensional, venue-driven experiences that follow a template. The details, setting, and unexpected moments make the story personal and unforgettable.

Why include details in an elopement?

The phrase “it’s all in the details” is only half true with adventure elopements. Nature itself can be the coolest detail, but adding personal touches with creative vendors elevates a space to extraordinary levels and makes it feel like your own. We always push for unique experiences. These can be things our couples have never done before, on a day that deserves to stand apart from any other. The more unique elements we can weave in, the deeper the experience becomes. We want to tell stories that need photos and videos to fully understand what happened. That’s when you know the day was unforgettable.
