Do you dream of exchanging vows surrounded by nothing but nature’s beauty? Eloping in a remote destination is more than skipping the traditional wedding ceremony. It is about creating a day that feels authentic, intimate, and unique to your love story. Whether you imagine dramatic cliffs, serene deserts, or lush forests, these top remote wedding destinations in the United States are perfect for an unforgettable adventure.

Top Remote Wedding Destinations

Yosemite National Park, California

Imagine standing under towering granite cliffs with waterfalls cascading around you. Yosemite’s views make it an unforgettable place to say, “I do.” Whether you choose Glacier Point or Yosemite Valley, it is a setting where your love feels as big as the landscape. When planning your elopement, be sure to check the latest regulations, as a permit is required.

Sedona, Arizona

If you are looking for a place that feels peaceful and powerful, Sedona’s red rock formations are exactly that. Can you see yourself sharing vows at sunset, as the warm hues of the rocks perfectly match the moment? Some well-known Airbnbs in the area are meant for elopement stays. They include all the amenities to make this adventure wedding more enjoyable and easier to plan.

“Eloping or planning a micro-wedding is all about creating a day that feels personal and true to who you are as a couple.”

Kauai, Hawaii

Kauai offers everything you would want in a tropical escape. Lush green landscapes, quiet beaches, and cascading waterfalls make it an ideal spot for couples who want a relaxed day full of natural beauty. The island is sacred, and many places are off limits. So please be sure to apply for permits to be certain your location is legal. In Hawaii, you are required to have an officiant registered in the state.

In addition to elopement locations, there are some great all-inclusive venues such as The Royal Sonesta Kaua’i Resort Lihue and Hilton Garden Inn Kauai Wailua Bay.

Big Sur, California

Big Sur feels like stepping into a movie. The cliffs, the sound of waves crashing below, and the ocean views create a magical setting for a ceremony.

For the best seasonal experiences, consider these timelines for your elopement. Wildflowers are in bloom during June, while mustard seed peaks in early August, and pampas grass creates its iconic look from mid-September to October. Lilies thrive from January through April. Low tide, perfect for accessing unique rock formations, occurs between September and October, while coastal caves are generally accessible from August through November, depending on tides. Avoid mid-August during Car Week, as it is the busiest time along the coast. Winter months bring fog for photos but come with a higher chance of rain, so plan for a flexible ceremony day. Remember to secure permits ahead of time and check regulations to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Jackson Hole is perfect for couples who want mountain views with a touch of wild charm. The Tetons make a stunning backdrop, and the cozy lodges nearby add just the right amount of comfort to your adventure. Some of the most famous ceremony sites for an elopement or micro wedding include Schwabacher Landing, Mormon Row, Mountain View Turnout, Glacier View Turnout, Snake River Overlook, and Colter Bay Swim Beach. Each location offers breathtaking views for a memorable wedding ceremony. I highly recommend taking a quick trip to find which site speaks to you.

There are many locations within Grand Teton National Park, and each has its own regulations regarding how many people, days, and items are allowed on site for ceremonies. Please check with the National Park Service for the latest information regarding permits.

Bar Harbor, Maine

For a charming coastal New England vibe, Bar Harbor near Acadia National Park has it all. The mix of ocean views, forest trails, and New England charm creates a setting that feels timeless and cozy. This town will allow you to write your vows on the beach and sail into the sunset, while you might catch sight of whales jumping out of the water!

There are a few historic chapels to choose from to hold an intimate micro-wedding. My personal favorite is All Faiths Chapel, which has access to beautiful lighthouse views and an outdoor sailcloth tent on campus. It’s the perfect spot for a micro wedding with under 40 people!

Lake Tahoe, Nevada

If you are drawn to shimmering blue waters and alpine views, Lake Tahoe is the perfect spot. Whether you are on the shore or in the mountains, the scenery is unforgettable. The iconic Twenty Mile House is located in the heart of the Sierra Nevada. This ceremony location is unlike anything you will ever experience. With the trees towering over you as you walk across the river bridge to say, “I do”, the property has some of the best photo opportunities in this country, in my opinion. Did I also mention it offers lodging for a complete experience in the middle of the forest? If you are looking for a wild getaway but still want a traditional ceremony and reception experience, look no further. Being an iconic venue, it is best to book your date 1.5 to 2 years in advance.

Let Your Adventure Begin

Eloping or planning a micro-wedding is all about creating a day that feels personal and true to who you are as a couple. These remote destinations provide more than just breathtaking backdrops. They are the perfect settings for starting your next chapter together in a way that is intimate and unforgettable. Whether you choose an iconic spot for your elopement or a stunning venue for your micro-wedding, it is essential to work with a wedding planner who specializes in destination events. Travel logistics, permits, and securing local resources can be challenging, and having an expert ensures your day goes off without a hitch. Make your celebration as unique and meaningful as your love story, wherever your adventure takes you.
